How to find a Notary Public?

1. Your Bank and financial institutions

Most banks do not charge fees for notary service if you are one of their customers. Even if you do not have a bank account or are not near your normal bank, you can typically use a notary service at a bank for a small fee.

2. Your local town hall, city hall, or county courthouse

Your local city hall or court office is likely to have a notary on staff, and often they make their services available to the public.

3. Shipping stores and printing stores

Many of the biggest printing stores and shipping firms often have a notary on hand. This includes shipping stores like the UPS store or other package stores.

4. Your pharmacy

Many pharmacies, including Walgreens/CVS, may offer notary services too.

5. Your local public library

Sometimes your local public library may have a notary and it might be for free or charge a small fee.

6. AAA Branches

AAA is a federation of independent clubs throughout the United States and Canada. They usually offer notarization for free as a member benefit for free and to non-members for a fee.

7. Schools and Universities

If you are a student, you may have free access to a notary on campus.

8. Your military base

Some military bases have come to offer free notary services. This option is only available for military personnel (and occasionally their families).

9. Real Estate/Law Offices Notaries

Many legal and real estate offices may be able to help you get your documents notarized. Some insurance offices also provide notary services.

10. Online

The most flexible way to find a notary is to get one online. Get your documents notarized entirely online. Remote online notarization is widely used during COVID-19.

Something to remember:

  • Notaries are public servants, so you shouldn't have to be a customer to use the notary.

  • Anywhere that charges too much for notary services. The maximum amount a notary can charge per signature is mandated by each state, and only a very few states have no limit. Click here to learn the notary fees in 50 states and DC.
